Emil Specht

July 4, 1956 — September 3, 2024

Rockport

Emil Otto Specht II, age 68, of Rockport, Texas, passed away on September 3, 2024, from heart complications. He will be terribly missed by his family and friends, and we will be forever grateful for his kindness and the wonderful memories he left, especially his dry sense of humor and the laughter it inspired. Although a thoracic stroke left him paralyzed, it did not take away his sense of humor or his positive attitude, and he will be forever remembered for the courage he displayed in the worst of circumstances. He was born July 4th, 1956, in San Antonio to Leonard H. Specht and Elizabeth Anne (Tinsley) Specht. Emil is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Annie Specht. He is survived by his wife Sally Specht, son Sean Maxwell Specht, stepchildren Natasha Medina (Peter), Butch Lovett, and Evan Lovett; siblings Kathy McCown (Earl), Ellie Specht Lummus (Mark), Erich Specht (Rhetta), Matyi Specht Hord (Mike), and nieces and nephews John Specht, Rachel Parker (Roger), Charlie Lummus (Laramie), and Erzseke Aldridge (Anthony). He held jobs as an offshore supply boat/crew boat captain, an oceangoing tug engineer and, for the last twenty years, an oilfield gauger at Lamar Oil and Gas. He traveled the world with his jobs, and spent time in Guam, Central America, Trinidad & Tobago, and Belize, where he worked setting up water wells. After becoming a father in 1989, he worked closer to home to watch his son, Sean, grow up. Emil was a “jack of all trades” and a master of many. He could fix most anything, and his skills included welding (steel, stainless, and aluminum), engine repair (cars, race cars, boats, jets skis, and anything else with an engine), and carpentry. He had other skills as well, including the ability to find the best “local dive” restaurant no matter where in the world he was. And he loved his music, which he blasted while sitting in his shop taking things apart and rebuilding them. He could tell you the name of any song, the band and who was in it, who wrote the song and what year. He was one of a kind and there are many stories to share among his family and friends. Arrangements for a celebration of life will be forthcoming.
