Elizabeth Rutherford Moore
April 23, 1946 – March 18, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Elizabeth Rutherford Moore, known lovingly as Liz. She died peacefully at her home in Port Aransas, Texas, on March 18, 2025. She was born on April 23, 1946, in Flushing, Queens, New York City, to Harry Scott Brooke Moore and Elizabeth “Betty” Marshall Cox Moore.
Liz was a lifelong caregiver with a deep passion for nursing. She first earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification from Illinois Central College in 1975. She later returned to school and earned her Registered Nurse (RN) degree from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi in 1997. Her career was defined by compassion, skill, and an unwavering commitment to her patients.
From 1992 to 2014, Liz worked at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where she cared for some of the most vulnerable children with extraordinary dedication and love. Known affectionately as “Lizard” by her colleagues, she was admired for her sharp wit, tireless work ethic, and the ability to bring warmth and laughter even in the most challenging situations. She was not only a mentor and friend to her fellow nurses but also a source of strength and comfort to countless families.
Beyond her profession, Liz was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She had a deep love for the imaginative world of Jim Henson and Sesame Street, with a special fondness for Kermit the Frog—her unofficial mascot and a symbol of the humor, heart, and quiet strength she carried through life. She was a lifelong fan of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, E.T., and Indiana Jones, and had a longtime love for the music of James Taylor, whose songs were a personal favorite throughout her life.
Liz created magic in the everyday, especially for her grandchildren. She hosted full moon parties on the beach, planned all-day movie marathons, and made holidays feel like something out of a storybook. She took them on trips to Austin to see musical theater and made sure they experienced the joy of great food—because Liz was, without question, the best cook ever. Her warmth, creativity, and sense of fun made her home a place her grandkids will always remember and cherish.
Liz was preceded in death by her father, Harry Scott Brooke Moore; her mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Marshall Cox Moore; and her brother, Scott Moore.
She is survived by her loving children: sons John Brennan(wife Wendy) and David Brennan; daughters Elizabeth “Beth” Owens (husband Kelly), Grace Collins (husband Chris), and daughter-in-law Katy Spofford (husband Trevor). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Mac Owens (wife Samantha), Kellie Owens, Chloe Brennan, Hank Brennan, Kendall Owens, Elish Brennan, Conner Brennan, Mackenzie Brennan, Magnolia Collins, Marigold Collins, and AJ Collins.
