Edwin Lee Rainwater passed away September 12, 2024 at 85 years old. He was born October 4, 1938 in Athens, Texas to Howard and Velma Rainwater. Edwin was raised in Wharton, Texas. At Wharton High School he achieved all-state recognition in football and band. Upon graduation, he went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin. While in college, he majored in Chemical Engineering, played in the Longhorn Band, and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
Edwin married the love of his life, Lucille Rainwater, September 5th of 1960. They lived a life full of love and were able to travel the world while raising their two children, Keith and Terri. They retired to Rockport, Texas in 1996 where they shared over ten thousand sunsets. Together they celebrated their sixty fourth wedding anniversary last week.
Edwin was a proud member of many clubs and organizations including the Coastal Conservation Association, San Patricio Water Board, University of Texas Engineering Advisory Board, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Rockport Center for the Arts, Rockport-Fulton ISD Education Foundation, and the Key Allegro Association. He worked as a Chemical Engineer at Dow Chemical Company for 35 years. His time with Dow started in Freeport, Texas and included opportunities spent in Holland, Germany, Brazil, and Michigan. In his spare time, he enjoyed numerous hobbies including fly fishing, tennis, golf, cycling, and community service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Velma Rainwater, and brother, Tom Rainwater.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille Rainwater of Rockport, Texas; son, Keith Rainwater (wife Carolyn) of Lago Vista, Texas; daughter, Terri Paterson (husband Joey) of Frisco, Texas; granddaughters, Brittanie Rainwater of Garland, Texas, Kaylie Rainwater of Magnolia, Texas, and Lexie Rainwater of Rockport, Texas; grandsons, Morgan and Maddox Peterson both of Frisco, Texas.
A memorial service will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 at 1:00 pm at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rockport, Texas.
