Edlois Thomson Burt, 84 years old, passed away on August 12, 2022 after long painful struggle which she bravely faced. She was the oldest of eight children by Ed and Lottie Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents, then favorite uncle, Edwin Mancil, and sisters, Virginia and Vivian. After high school she worked at a paper mill in her hometown of Elizabeth. She worked there to fund her enrollment at Southeastern Louisiana University. She met and soon married her husband, Bill. They had three sons, Eric, Scott, and Craig. They have five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
She worked as a teacher for 20 years at St. Theresa School in Gonzales, La. She also specialized in working with students who suffered from dyslexia. For years she worked long weekends helping dyslexic students. She was an avid reader, fishermen, camper and gardener. She greatly influenced her sons, who are also avid readers and outdoorsmen.
She was an active church member of the Disciples of Christ in Baton Rouge. There she worked with other members on goodwill projects for the disadvantaged.
Her favorite minister, Dr. Michael Elmore blessed her and Bill with a life guide, "Each day is a blessing, embrace it".
Her last year of life has been a great challenge. Cancer is a formable foe, fierce and unrelenting. With the treatment from her doctors, Dr .Kadar, Dr. Low, Dr.West, Dr.Junesa, and Dr. Millalo she obtained an additional 18 months of life. We appreciate the care and compassion from her nurses at Baton Rouge General Hospital and the Hematology Clinic. Opus Health Hospice had nurses, Debbie, Jessica, and Brandy who were especially caring and compassionate. The family; Bill, Eric, Scott, and Craig all gave her continuous support. We especially appreciate the maximum care Craig and wife, Kipi provided. Her suffering was greatly eased.
Lois was just a good kind Christian woman. Without a doubt she was the most unselfish person one would ever meet. She always consider others first. That was Lois.
