Dionicio (Necho) Benavidez, September 12, 1927 – April 7, 2020.

Necho Benavidez went to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, after a long illness. He was born on September 12, 1927 in Vanderbilt, TX. He lived in Rockport most of his life. He was a commercial shrimper and then retired from the Texas Department of Transportation. He was an active member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church until his illness prevented his participation.

Necho is preceded in death by his wife, Esther Benavidez; his mother, Juanita Benavidez and his father, Gabriel Benavidez; 4 brothers, Lupito, Leopoldo, Raymundo, and Gabriel Benavidez; his sisters, Ysabel Benavidez, Erlinda B. Martinez and Celia Moraida.

He is survived to cherish his memory by his daughter, Elida (Thomas) Longoria of San Antonio; his sons, Daniel (Lisa) Benavidez of Smiley, Juan (Mimi) Benavidez of Austin, and Jesse Benavidez of Rockport; and his brother, Tim (Cecilia) Benavidez of Virginia. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Gifted Hearts Hospice for the care and love they gave our father.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, April 9, 2020 from 10:00am to 6:00pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport, Texas. A Graveside Service will be conducted on Friday, April 10, 2020 at 2:00pm at Rockport Cemetery in Rockport, Texas. Please consider the ten people or less/social distance rule that will be held to keep everyone safe at the time of services as per Gov. Abbott.
