Dereck White

Dereck Ray White, 42, passed away on February 6, 2023 at his home in Robstown, Texas. Dereck fought a valiant fight against cancer. Dereck was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on March 17, 1980, and was raised in Ingleside, Texas. He spent his life on the Texas coast, but he traveled extensively.  He was an avid fisherman, sailor, surfer, hunter and all-around outdoorsman. Prior to his cancer diagnosis he was a boat builder. Dereck was a graduate of Ingleside High School and Texas A & M @ Corpus Christi.

Dereck also competed in many local, state, national and international beard and moustache competitions. He placed fourth in international moustache competition twice, and he had a room full of 1st place trophies from everywhere. He also enjoyed participating in disc golf tournaments everywhere he went. There was never a person that met Dereck that did not become an instant life-long friend.  He could build or repair anything. He was a master of many trades. The only problem he could not solve was cancer. His unique perspective on life, his humor, and his friendship will be missed by everyone including his dogs Sylvester and Apple. Dereck is survived by his mother, Marlys White and his brothers Tearle White and Montana White. His nephew Kaeden White and his nieces Dakota, Trinity and Cadence White. He is also survived by his Uncles Todd Maley, Douglas (Joyce) Koepke, Edward (Sherri) Koepke, Gary (Nohemi) Maley, Mike (Yvonne) Maley; his Aunts Germaine (Rosendo) Martinez and Robin Fuentes, and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Ray (Buddy) White, Jr., and his Uncles Stephen and James Koepke, grandparents Robert and Nona Maley; Harry (Marvin) and Gwen Koepke.

A special thank you to his many friends who have helped him and our family through these last difficult years with cancer. We especially love and give thanks to Dereck’s loving girlfriend, Jennifer Garrow. There are so many others who stepped in to help provide care and comfort to Dereck, and to help  him care for his beloved dogs. We appreciate all of you, and are thankful you were in Dereck’s life.

A memorial service and planting of a tree will be held on February 18, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. please call a family member for the location. Also, on February 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. a celebration of life will be held at Live Oak Park in Ingleside, Texas.
