Rockport

David left his temporary home to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 14, 2020 at the age of 76. David was one of a kind. To many friends and family, he was also known as “Butch”. He was born on June 18, 1943 in East Saint Louis, Missouri, to Daisy McClure & Harold Roedersheimer. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; wife, Geraldean Roedersheimer; and sister Darlene Franke.

He is survived by his daughters Leah Hernandez (Frank), Tina Keveren (partner Eddie Williamson), Stacy Lassiter (Matthew) and Crystal Fillinger; his son David Harold Roedersheimer Jr.; grandchildren, Mercedes Bazan, Brandon Gossett, Ryan Keveren, Bryan Keveren, David H. Roedersheimer III (Trey), Ronnie James Roedersheimer, Chloe, and Cameron Fillinger and Molly Marie; great-great grandchildren, Kinley Covarrubias, Cheyenne, Chelsey, Shayne, and Trinity Gossett, and Freya Keveren; Sisters, Mary Little and Dolores Long; Brother Larry (Spud) Roedersheimer.

David served our great country in the US Navy aboard the USS Little Rock CLG-4, from 1961-1965. He spent his last 30 years as a resident of Rockport, TX.

(written by family)

He worked many years in carpentry building many homes and in his later years, worked along side his best friend, Trey, spraying those awful “willie worms” that like to inhabit the Rockport area. He loved everything about the outdoors whether it was laying out at the beach in his favorite speedos and baby oil ( in his younger years, who are we kidding here, well up to his 50’s), to spending time in the beautiful atrium he built and tending to his plants and flowers throughout his yard. He had a GREEN THUMB (literally) the greener the better! He loved all things green, including the color, LOL. The more time he spent tending to his greenery the more at peace he was.

You knew he was home from about a block away because he always had his music blaring and you were in for a jam a session just like you were in a stadium at a concert. He had a love for music like no other. You were sure to hear a little bit of everything including the gospel, ole’ school rock, Sharika, his woman Cher, to “that pretty little Taylor Swift.” David had the best sense of humor. Oh, how he loved to laugh, and cracking up at his home was a given as his laugh was surely contagious. He would often say “I’m not a stupid, just a little slow.” He was a traveling man who took Leah on many road trips always taking a different route and you can bet “Proud Mary” by CCR was going to be blaring on that cassette player hitting rewind repeatedly. He enjoyed spending time with his good buddy and neighbor, Kevin Stueber who shared the same birthdate as Dad. He looked forward every year to celebrating and having cake with him. Kevin took dad on his very first boat ride. Once they were out on the bay, Kevin turned around to see dad with his head laid back, eyes closed, and his arms spread wide open. He thought to himself “Oh, crap! Is he ok?” After a minute dad opened his eyes and gave Kevin a huge smile and a thumbs up. Dad also really enjoyed when his good buddy Jeff would come by for visits and always lend him his expertise and helping hand. Dad would sure light up when what he referred to as “a pretty lady” would come by as we all know he was a big flirt. He was the type of man who would give you the shirt off his back or give you his last dollar. Oh, how he loved his family so much. He would always give ten dollars in $2.00 dollar bills at Christmas in a card from Santa among his other gifts. He was especially close with his little Kinley who affectionately referred to him as her “uncle- grandpa” and He always had a gift for her in hand on any given visit. Dad had a love for concerts and his kids were fortunate enough to share that love with him, little Dave got most all the cool rock concerts because he was the “boy.” Tina got to see “The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley.” He took Leah to see many country artists but the coolest one for her was the Pink Floyd Laser Show. Dad was especially proud of his #1 son-in-law who he always said reminded him of Jason Aldean in his cowboy hat. LOL. One of the greatest things about dad was all the great memories and stories he shared with so many. Most importantly

Dad was a man who knew and loved the Lord. Always a praying daddy. He often said in the past couple of years, “when the good Lord was ready, he would take him home.” Even though the pain of losing him hurts so bad, there is a peace and comfort knowing his body is made knew and he is rejoicing in Heaven with many of his loved ones he has missed. There is no more of those pesky glasses he would often misplace even on the top of his head, his eyes are made new, and he is showing off those strong muscles again. Dad would say “it really sucks getting old, your hearing starts to go, and you have to say what all the time. You start losing your eyesight, and then you lose your teeth.” No more taste of “plastic” or gumming it dad. If you close your eyes, I bet you can see him smiling, giving a wink and flirting with all those “pretty angels.” Spread those “Silver Wings” now and plant more beautiful roses in Heaven, Dad. Your life was a blessing, and a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. We are so thankful for all of the years we were blessed to have you here on earth and now as our angel watching over us in Heaven. The King Elvis Presley once sang, “And now, the end is near, so I face the final curtain, my friend, I’ll state it clear, I’ll state my case of which I’m certain. I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve traveled each and every highway, and more, much more than this, I did my way.” As Dad would often say “Thank you Jesus and have a good evening.”

There will be a Celebration Of Life held on Saturday, February 15th 2020 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at his home. We will be having a balloon release. If you would like to bring a green balloon to be released, you may do so. Also, the family is asking for potted plants, trees, or rose bushes to be planted on his property in his memory. Thank you so much for all the thoughts and prayers for the family. Make sure you also come with a good memory to share of dad.
