Darrell Lee Jones, 57, passed away peacefully at his home in Yorktown, Texas on April 8, 2017. He was born on June 2, 1959 in Aransas Pass, Texas to Floyd N.L. Jones and Diana Vivian Jones.

Darrell is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Nickie Jones, son, Ronald Martinez (Melissa Acuna), daughter, Grace Chapa (Adan); 5 grandchildren, Steven Martinez (Brittany), Megan Martinez (Sam Garcia), Brandan Martinez, Nicole Chapa, Kristen Dearson; 2 great-grandchildren, Aiden Jamison and McKenna Lee Martinez; 5 brothers Daniel Jones ( Kathy), Dion Jones, Duane Jones (Donna), Darren Jones (Carol), Derek Jones (Marilu); 2 sisters Deborah Lawrence (David), Denise Musquez (Ricky); numerous nephews and nieces. Close family friend Ernest Moreno. And his beloved dog, Buck.

Darrell was born and raised in Aransas Pass. He started his career in law enforcement as a dispatcher and became a reserve in 1977. In 1979 he was hired as a police officer. He attended and graduated from Del Mar College Police Academy and worked his way up through the patrol ranks from Corporal to Sergeant. In 1990 Darrell was promoted to Detective Sergeant and in 1993 to Lieutenant where he took on the responsibilities of Crime Stoppers Coordinator and Crime Victims Liaison. Darrell received a Master Peace Officer's Certificate from the State of Texas. In 1998 he attended and graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He served as Aransas Pass Police Chief from 2003 until his retirement in 2012. He loved being outdoors, enjoyed photography and spending time with his family. Darrell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all.

A celebration of life service will be held on April 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. Viewing from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. All services will take place at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass. Interment will follow immediately after at Prairie View Cemetery.
