Dan Shelton, age 99, passed awayMay11, in Rockport, Texas. The second of three children, Dan was born March 26, 1924 in Austin, Texas to John and Katherine (Cavett) Shelton. He graduated from Austin High Scholl and was attending St. Edwards University when entered what is now the U.S. Air Force. He owned and operated several businesses in Austin. He then went into the land development field and had subdivisions in Travis, Hays, Guadalupe and Aransas Counties. After retirement he moved to the Rockport-Fulton area where he served as Chairman of the first Appraisal Board and Chairman of the Conservation and Reclamation Board. He also co-sponsored the Incorporation of Fulton and was on its City Council. He sponsored the movement to obtain wastewater service for Fulton at no cost to the taxpayers. He cleaned, fenced and gated the Fulton Cemetery. Dan was a member of the Civitan Club and the Elks in Austin and was President and District Officer of the Lions in Fulton. He was predeceased by his parents, first wife, Joy Miller, daughter, Kay Nell Wilson, brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Virginia Shelton, and mother-in-law, Dorothy Faught. He is survived by his wife Barbara, son Reynolds (Dulce), daughter Susan (Jon) Hellberg, sister Gayle (Kleber) Miller, stepdaughter Jeannette Richmond, stepsons Bobby(Karen) Jack and Michael(Jacklyn) Jack, brothers-in-law Russ (Jan) Holcomb and Edward Lane, and sisters-in-law Donna Butler and Ruth LaRocca. He is also survived by grandchildren John (Kristina) Hallam, James(Kristin) Hallam, Andrew (Natasha) Hallam, Louise Collins, Virginia Lamb, Natalie Perry, Dan Hellberg, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Espiscopal Church, Rockport and burial will be private at the Fulton Cemetery.
