Dale Courtenay Freyer Dugat, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, February 1st, 2017 of esophageal cancer. Courtenay was born in Victoria on October 1, 1953 to Delmar E. and Georgia Freyer of Victoria.
A 1971 Victoria High School graduate, Courtenay attended Sam Houston State University and graduated in 1975 with a degree in Music Education. Courtenay taught for many years in the Gregory Portland school district. In 2003, she was elected to serve as the San Patricio County Treasurer. She was serving as county treasurer at the time of her death.
On December 28, 1975, she married her loving and devoted husband, Raymond L. Dugat III of Portland. They had two sons Cody and wife Kelly of Sandia and Casey of Portland. She was blessed with two grandchildren Chase and Kallie Dugat of Sandia whom she adored. She is survived by her husband, sons and daughter-in-law, grandchildren and her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Liz Freyer of Victoria.
Courtenay was active in the San Patricio County Area Go Texan Committee. She was a 4H leader and the assistant show secretary for the San Patricio County Livestock Show for many years. Courtenay was a very gifted musician and began playing for church services at the age of 13. She continued to share her gift of music as the pianist for the First United Methodist Church in Portland until her illness prevented her from doing so.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 4th, 2017 at 10 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Portland. Visitation will be at the church following the service.
