Connie Grewe

d. February 7, 2018

Connie Jean Grewe, age 70, of Rockport, Texas peacefully passed away on February 7, 2018. Connie was born on July 10, 1947 to Martin and Mildred (Dean) Kemnitz in Granite Falls, Minnesota. Her first years were spent growing up in a log cabin, with her sister, in Renville County. At the age of three, the family moved to a farm place a mile and a half north of Danube, Minnesota. She graduated from Danube High School in 1965 as Salutatorian. She was involved as a member of Future Homemakers of America, as editor of the school newspaper, as editor of the school yearbook, as Class Treasurer, and as a four-year member of the National Honor Society. She was also a confirmed member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

Connie attended college at St. Cloud State College and graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary education. She was most proud of completing college with honors in three years instead of four. Her major was English and her minor was speech and theatre. She was involved as editor of the college yearbook, as a member of Gamma Delta Lutheran Organization, and as a Sunday school teacher.

Connie began her teaching career at White Bear Lake Jr. High immediately following her graduation from college in 1968. She married this same year and had two daughters from this union. Later, she moved to Willmar, Minnesota and spent the remaining 28 years teaching grades seven to eleven at the Jr. and Sr. High schools. She was chair of the communications department for many years. She also enjoyed directing many Jr. High School theatre productions. She was listed in the book "Who's Who of America's Teachers" too. She was President of the Barn Theatre and directed a number of successful theatre productions. She was also a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Connie married the love of her life, soul mate, and best friend, Charles Grewe, on April 12, 1984. They resided in their home just a few miles outside of Willmar for many years. They spent 12 years of their retirement full-time RV'ing across the United States. In October 2008, they moved to Rockport, Texas with their daughters, son-in-law's, and grandchildren. Chuck passed in 2012 and Connie, with her many health ailments, continued to live in their fifth-wheel with all the memories that brought her great comfort. Connie was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Rockport.

A private family memorial ceremony will be held to honor her life in the near future.

Connie is survived by her two daughters, Susan (Michael) Schneider and Kathy (Timothy) Vian of Rockport, her two grandchildren, Jake and Gabriella, her sister Veva Mittelstadt of Danube, Minnesota, her nephews Mark Mittelstadt of Minot, North Dakota and Brian (Sarah) Mittelstadt of Fairmont, Minnesota, her niece Amy Mittelstadt of Lancaster, California, her two furry companions, Gracie and Beau and her many life-long friends.

In lieu of memorials, please make a donation to your local Humane Society or animal shelter in memory of her love for animals.
