Clara Bartlett

d. June 21, 2017

Clara Edith Bartlett was born on August 10, 1916 in Canton, Texas and went to be with her Lord on June 21, 2017. She was married to W.F. "Dub" Bartlett for 48 years until his passing in 1988. She is survived by Dub Bartlett, Jr. and Sharon Bartlett of Houston, Texas, and Mark and Donnie Bartlett, of Ruston, Louisiana. She has three grandchildren; Jennifer Bartlett, Julie Stephenson and Chris Bartlett and two great grandchildren; Tatum and Cooper Stephenson. She and Dub Sr. lived in Aransas Pass for almost 50 years.

Her parents, Louisa and John Pirtle, were farmers in various locations in Texas and Oklahoma. Edith graduated salutatorian of her class from Roscoe High School, Roscoe, Texas, in 1933.

Edith was active in the First Baptist Church of Aransas Pass and taught Sunday school classes for many years. She kept books for her husband's excavating business and, later, for their machine shop in Aransas Pass. She completed several Bible study correspondence classes through SMU, became an accomplished artist, selling many of her paintings along the Gulf Coast and throughout central Texas. She later developed quilting skills and completed several quilts that were considered exceptional by professional quilters. Late in her life she maintained an exercise routine that kept her fit. When asked for the secret to her longevity, she often replied, "I hoed many a row of cotton when I was young." Edith always had a smile and a kind word to say. She loved her family and was proud of their accomplishments. She loved the word of God and took shelter there in all that she did in her life. She was very proud to have had the opportunity to serve short-term missionary functions in Australia and Costa Rica.

A Private Graveside service will be held at Aransas Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family request remembrances be sent to The Salvation Army.
