Chester Carter Chatterton

June 1, 1963 — January 19, 2025

Chester “Carter” Chatterton, aged 61, known for his whit, cooking, baking and personality, passed away January 19th, 2025in his home. Carter was surrounded by his loving wife andfamily; wrapped in the Peace of God at the time of his passing.

Carter and Sharen Chatterton moved to Rockport from Cisco, TX in 2021. They were the epitome of life partners, having been married for over 29 years. After their move, Carter and Sharen sought ways to integrate themselves into the community. The pair, along with Sharen’s twin sister Karen, opened Moon Over Water Gallery and Artisan Market on Austin St. in 2022. It was here that Carter was able to flourish; sharing his love of cooking with the community through his Made By The C’s Artisan Food Market, located in the back of Moon Over Water. He was known for baking the best sourdough bread in the area, with customers coming from as far as California to purchase a loaf. Other than food, Carter’s favorite past-times were meeting and chatting with new people. He could always be relied upon to lend an ear or share a laugh and (of course) make an inappropriately timed joke. Carter was dedicated to Made By the C’s and ran the food market until his devastating cancer diagnosis in October.

Carter was the foundation of his family by being a constant presence and source of support. He is survived by his wife Sharen, his children Chase, Katie, and Dustin, his five grandchildren, brother Chris, and a very close-knit extended family. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/donate/) in Carter’s name.
