Chavella "Chevie" Elizabeth McClung (Ramirez) entered our world as one of 10 children to her loving mother and father, Manuel and Eduvijan "Vickie" Ramirez, in Sinton, Texas, on January 22nd, 1952.
Chevie and her family spent most of her childhood tending a cotton farm Manuel owned and operated. There, she spent many days in the fields alongside her 9 siblings, picking cotton beneath the blistering Texas sun, a testament to Chevie and her family's remarkable resilience and work ethic. In her early adulthood, Chavella – eager and ready to explore the outside world – moved away from the family to set out and carve her own path. Chevie was able to experience a lot during those first few years on her own, leading her to ultimately meet the man she would spend the next 50 years of her life with, Lyle Wayne McClung, Jr.
Chevie and Wayne married in November 1972. They soon set forth on a journey that would see the young couple start a loving family with two children of their own, Vickie Michelle and Jeffrey Wayne. With the birth of their first child, Michelle, they began a new chapter, planting their family's roots in the suburbs of Houston, Texas.
Jeffrey followed thereafter, and Chevie began a 20-plus-year career with Klein ISD. There, she embarked on a long and productive professional path, turned several colleagues into lifelong friends, and impacted so many lives along the way. Later in life, Chevie's heart expanded with the arrival of four beautiful grandchildren: Valarie, Lyndsey, Kayla, and Austin. Her grandchildren became the center of her world, and she loved them all immensely.
Chavella spent her retirement years in Spring, Texas. She could often be found having an early breakfast with her Dr. Pepper and enjoying the days and companionship with her husband, Wayne, who also retired. He was by her side until her passing on May 28th, 2024.
Chevie is preceded in passing by her parents, Manuel and Vickie, her brothers Joe, Ricky, and Tony, her sister Anita, and her first-born son, Jeremy, whom she will be within eternal peace.
Chevie is survived by her husband, Wayne; her daughter, Michelle, and son-in-law, Hugo; her son, Jeff, and daughter-in-law, Jessica; granddaughters Valarie, Lyndsey, and Kayla; grandson, Austin; great-grandson Brayden; her sisters, Rosa, Julia, Connie, Amy, and her brother, Lupe.
Chavella will be deeply missed and always remembered by everyone who knew and loved her.
