1942 Carol 2019

Carol Browning

December 17, 1942 — August 31, 2019

Portland, Texas

Carol Eva (Figg) Browning was born December 17, 1942 in Muscatine, Iowa and died on August 31, 2019 in Portland, Texas.

Carol is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jerry R. Browning Sr., who was her life partner and with him raised two amazing sons. Her first born whom she loved more than words can say Jerry Russell Browning Jr. (Wendi) and her second son whom she loved beyond words Jeffrey Lamont “God’s peace” Browning (Marcela). Carol’s unconditional love of her sons began the moment they were born and continued throughout her life. Her sons were truly the love of her life. Surviving siblings are Pamela Maupin (Bob), Harold L. Figg Jr. (Candice), Todd R. Figg (Beth), Terry R. Figg (Teresa) and Rochelle Carnes. Her surviving wonderful grandkids are Trey, Hunter and Nicholas…and many nieces and nephews. Carol is preceded in death by her loving father, Harold L. Figg Sr. and her loving mother, Helen E. Figg, her sister Helen F. Ellis, her infant niece Robin Ellis and brother in law Tommy W. Carnes.

Carol’s professional life focused on management and accounting serving community business for fifty years. After retirement Carol and her sister-in-law, Teresa started their own business “The Sew and Sews”. This business was a fun time for Carol particularly under the big oak trees in Goliad when they attended Market Days. Goliad was also special to Carol for the peace she experienced sitting on the courthouse lawn listening to the bells chiming.

Carol had a great love for her six siblings each in a different way. She cherished every joyful moment they shared. Family gatherings and “Figg” card games were two of the many things she loved and brought her so much happiness.

Carol always loved three special things…family, tennis and sewing. She loved her time with her grandsons. Going to the park, playing board games, playing tennis and building tents in the den, making grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. What a complete joy the grandkids were to Carol. Carol loved tennis and would like to say “goodbye” for now to her dear friend Bev, see you in Wendover, girl.

The Browning family would like to offer their deepest appreciation to Dr. Jerome Lee Sang and all of the staff at Harbor Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, Carol requested donations be made to:
