Carlos Cardenas

Carlos Cardenas passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019, surrounded by his beloved family. Carlos is survived by his loving wife, Carmen De Leon Cardenas of sixty five years. They were married in Laredo, Texas, on April 18, 1954.

Carlos will be lovingly missed and remembered by his brothers Raul Cardenas and wife Herlinda, Nicholas Cardenas and wife Laly, his sister, Elvira Banda, his daughter Leticia C. Grounds and husband Greg, his son Carlos Alberto Cardenas and wife Gisela, as well as grandchildren, Jessica Robinson and husband Brandon, Christopher Grounds and wife Lerin, Victoria Trimm and husband Neil, and Carlos A. Cardenas Jr., as well as three great grandchildren Isabella Sanchez, Parker and Weston Robinson. Other family members left to cherish his memory include, Pati Martinez, Carlotta Meza, Daniel Hernandez Jr., Janie H. Ballesteros and Rosie H. Flippo.

Carlos was born in Taft, Texas on November 2nd, 1928 to Aniceto and Elvira Cardenas. He graduated from Mirando High School in 1945 as class Valedictorian and then graduated from Texas A&I University in 1949 with a Bachelors’ Degree in Business Administration. Carlos completed a Masters’ in Business Administration in 1977 from Texas A&I University. Carlos was drafted into the Army November 17, 1950 where he served as a staff sergeant for two years at Fort Bliss, in El Paso Texas and later in Baumholder and Frankfurt, Germany.

The day after Carlos was discharged from the Army in 1952, he went to work as an accountant with Trautmann Brothers Produce Company where he worked for forty two years until his retirement in 1994.

Carlos was active in his community where he served on the Laredo United Independent School District Board for 17 years, and was active in the Laredo Evening Lions Club for 38 years. In addition, Carlos was a member of the St. Patrick’s Church Men’s Club for over 20 years, and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Josephs’ Catholic Church in Port Aransas for nine years.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, TX, located at 2003 W. Wheeler Ave, Aransas Pass, TX 78336. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Port Aransas, Texas, located at 100 S Station St, Port Aransas, TX 78373.
