Bruce McKinney

Bruce H. McKinney passed peacefully on May 27, 2023, at the Frank Tejeda Veterans Home in Floresville, Texas. He was born on July 5, 1945 in Springfield, Illinois. He was the son of Harold and Martha McKinney and lovingly went by "Bud" to his closest family.

Bruce proudly served in the United States Navy before meeting his beloved wife. On July 4, 1971, he was united in marriage to Roberta "Bert" Louise McKinney. Together they shared forty-one years of marriage with their adoring son Barry Slade McKinney. He was predeceased by Bert in 2013, and Barry in 2022. He called Rockport home for more than 35 years.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law Jan Wilson McKinney, of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Mark and Scott McKinney, of San Antonio, Texas; brother Jess McKinney of Claremore, Oklahoma; sister Dee Vance of Stuart, Florida and beloved nephews, nieces, extended family and friends whom he considered family.

In his career life, he worked as a truck driver enjoying the open road before moving to Texas. There, he proudly served the guests and members of St. Charles Bay Hunting Club in Fulton, Texas for many years. He provided stellar care to the cabins, boats and landscape relishing in making it a comfortable retreat for members' families.

Even when Alzheimer's disease took its hold, he would always have a cup of coffee in his hand and a sly smile on his face. He loved everything about the outdoors. And, if it had a motor, especially boats, he could make it run-no instruction manual needed.

Per Bruce's request, we will honor him with an interment and brief casual graveside service as he is reunited with his adoring wife Bert on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Rockport Cemetery.
