OBITUARY OF BOBBY LEE OVERTON
April 26, 1933 – April 21, 2023
Bobby Lee Overton, 90, of Rockport, TX passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at his home in the Rockport Country Club.
Bobby was born April 26, 1933 at Temple, OK to Robert and Cecil Overton.
Bobby and his beloved Ruby Lee Perry “Struby” were married on August 24, 1957 at Lissie, Texas. They spent many week ends and nights playing commercial league basketball in the Houston/Pasadena area. Bobby played for Champion Paper and Ruby Lee for the LaRose Cleaners teams. While Bobby’s love for basketball grew more each year another love for competitive sports grew at an even greater pace and he rapidly liked golf more than any other sport. His love of the game of golf provided he and Struby the opportunity to play a game that provided him access to a group of men who had high moral and ethical values. Bobby excelled at the game of golf and never tired of it. The game allowed Bobby and Struby to make many lifelong friends in a neighborhood with a family oriented environment in which all participated in Little League, football, golf, etc. and where today many of these children have returned to live in this same neighborhood.
Bobby was known for his dry sense of humor, everyone will remember many examples of this grumpy old man. He had a passion for wade fishing in the Bays around The Bend – it didn’t matter how hot or cold or rainy or dry the weather, some of the group could be found wading the bays. Another passion of Bobby’s was his “piddling” in the garage and on almost any day he could be found in the garage with one project or another. Bobby had no pretenses – what you saw was what you got.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Claudell and Don Overton, and his sisters Maxine Waugh and Jo Doris Narrow. He is survived by his wife Ruby Lee and his sister, Jerri Huddleston and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
