Betty Burleigh

d. January 11, 2018

Betty "Joan" Burleigh was called home by our Heavenly Father Wednesday, 10 January 2018 from Cimarron Place Nursing Home in Corpus Christi, TX.

Joan was born 01 Dec 1931 in Austin, TX to Bessie Eunice Garner and Rufus Hill Burleson. She graduated from Port Lavaca High School, then from Durham Business College in Houston, TX.

On 06 September 1952 Joan married William "Earl" Burleigh in Port Lavaca, TX. This 62 year union was blessed with two children - Kathy Elaine Burleigh (b. 1953) of Georgetown, TX and Steven Earl Burleigh (b. 1956) of Corpus Christi, TX. She always set a good example for her family, and provided a loving home for them in Aransas Pass, TX.

A dedicated Christian, Joan taught a children's Sunday School class at First Baptist Church, Port Lavaca, when she was 16. After she married Earl and established their home in Aransas Pass, she served her extended family as a Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church, Aransas Pass for most of her adult life. Her legacy includes the many lives she touched as she ministered in the church. Joan enjoyed her church life, and treasured the many friends she made while serving Christ.

Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Joan was preceded in death by her husband Earl, her parents, husband and her brother John Hill "Jack" Burleson.

She is survived by her children Kathy and Steven, and two daughters-in-law Denise Hunter and Suma Kunapareddy Burleigh. She is also survived by two sisters - Marylou Burleson Sauer and her husband Vernon Sauer, and Marjorie Martha "Margie" Burleson Forster and her husband LeRoy "Lee" Forster, and sister-in-law Evelyn Burleson, as well as by 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Joan was dearly loved by everyone who knew her, and will be deeply missed. She is now reunited with her parents, brother and her beloved husband Earl. In our mind's eye we can see Joan and Earl skipping joyfully hand in hand, kicking up golden sand in Heaven, as they so enjoyed doing on the beaches of South Texas. Until we meet again!

Visitation is from 4 pm to 9 pm Monday, 15 Jan 2018 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, 2003 W. Wheeler, Aransas Pass. Funeral services to celebrate Joan's life are at 10 am Tuesday, 16 January 2018 at First Baptist Church, 627 S. Houston St, Rev. Ian Caceres officiating. Eulogy by Joan's sister, Margie Forster. Interment follows at Prairie View Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes and Crematory.
