Bertha Griego

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bertha Ann Griego of Rockport, Texas at the age of 68. Bertha was born in Vaughn, New Mexico where she graduated from Vaughn High School. Bertha went on to earn Bachelor of Science Degrees from the University of New Mexico, the University of Albuquerque and Petroleum Lab Certification in Corpus Christi, Texas, Her residences included, Vaughn, NM, Albuquerque, NM, Austin, TX, Yohkum, TX, and Rockport, TX.

Bertha was employed as a Research Technician in Microbiology at the University of New Mexico under the National Institute of Minority Biomedical Research Program where she published papers that were presented at National Conventions around the United States. Bertha worked as a research medical technologist until she began working for Columbia North Bay Hospital in Aransas Pass, TX where she earned her 25-year employment pin. Bertha is preceded in death by her parents Nicomades Griego and Ponciana Garcia, Griego, brothers George Griego of Albuquerque, NM and Ray Griego of Austin, TX, nephew, George Griego of Albuquerque, NM as well as her companions Bonnie and Tucker Griego. Bertha is survived by a brother Nick Griego and wife Connie of Albuquerque, Sister Mary Sena of Rockport, TX, Sister in law Janice Griego of Austin, TX as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Bertha enjoyed boating, fishing, visiting with friends and family as well as gambling. Bertha enjoyed casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada, and New Mexico, as well as occasionally in Texas. Bertha loved being surrounded by her park family at Beacon RV in Rockport and always had a quick smile and loving nature. Those who knew her knew she was always available to help in any way she could. Pallbearers include: Albert Griego, Matthew Blythe, Gary Chavez, Michael Chavez, Zeke Chavez, Danny Griego, Nick Griego, Christopher Griego, and Jonathan Griego.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am in Rockport, TX at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home located at 814 E. Main Street on February 24, 2024. Funeral services will be held on March 09, 2024, at 10:00 am, The Rosary will be followed by a Mass and burial service at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Vaughn, NM.
