Ann/Anne Stevenson Cook, GPISD Librarian of 31 years and beloved mother, died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 83 on Wednesday, December 6th, after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her 4 children William (Bill) and Donna Cook, Barbara Cook, Susan and Hugh Wayne, Shirley and Alan Dickey, 9 Grandchildren, and 5 Great Grand Children. Her husband William (Bill) Cook Jr. preceded her in death in 1989.
Her life was a testament to the power of love, and she was well respected in her career as a librarian who stood up for the rights of her patrons, and against censorship. She advocated strongly for the addition of certified librarians in all schools, and positively impacted Gregory-Portland schools with her passion and commitment to excellence. She came to Texas in 1976 with her husband and children, and made Texas her home.
We would like to thank all those individuals who were a part of her life, for welcoming her to the south with grace and hospitality, and for making her life richer and more fulfilled.
The family invites all who would like to wish her goodbye to join them on Wednesday, December 27th at 1:00 pm, for a Memorial Service to be held at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, 2003 W. Wheeler, Aransas Pass. In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Library Association.
