It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Alexis Barr Kleven passed away in her home on November 6, 2024, at the age of 63. Alexis was born May 5, 1961, in Saint Augustine, Florida.
Alexis had a unique ability to connect with people, she never knew a stranger! Her joy for life showed brightest when she danced. Alexis loved to dance and cherished a diverse array of music, her favorite being the local Houston blues band, “Luther & The Healers.” She often remarked with a twinkle in her eye, “I took my kids off breast milk & raised them on Luther; look at how beautiful they turned out!” The passing of Luther in 2018 deeply affected her and her family attests that a part of her spirit died with Luther.
Alexis exhibited unwavering loyalty to her family and friends. Alexis was vibrant and passionate about her beliefs. She was a true spitfire and lived her convictions boldly. Alexis was a proud member of Lakewood Church and an ardent supporter of President Trump. Her interests also included horticulture but her love for sand between her toes was equally profound. She loved the beach, any beach, but her favorite was the one adjacent to her front yard in Holiday Beach, where she shared almost 20 years with her adoring husband, Kent Kleven.
As many are aware, Alexis was a transplant survivor; November 8, 2024, would have marked the eighth anniversary of her "Survivor Day." In her honor, individuals who are not already registered may wish to consider becoming organ donors. Instead of traditional floral arrangements, the family requests you plant a tree in her memory or donate to your local veterans (specifically the panhandlers and/or homeless because that is what she did). Alexis expressed her desire for cremation. Given the approaching holiday season, it is understood that many schedules are already committed, and travel expenses may present a challenge. To accommodate friends and family residing out of state, the family aims to provide sufficient notice regarding the Celebration of Life, which is tentatively scheduled for after the New Year. Further details will be communicated once arrangements are finalized.
While it is customary to list surviving family members, there was nothing ordinary or conventional about Alexis. She was extraordinary and one of a kind. In keeping with Alexis' unique and untraditional spirit, she is survived by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, because to know her was to love her.
